A Happy Dog and Owner PDF Print E-mail
My 12-year-old black Lab, Jake, has end stage/ terminal kidney failure. Being a veterinarian myself I know he doesn’t have much time left with me. I tried many treatments to make his transition comfortable, but with limited benefit. Ultimately, I want him to be comfortable, and having experienced the benefits of acupuncture myself, I decided to pursue this option for him. Luckily, I knew that Sun Dog Cat Moon offered acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and nutrition consultations. This was a perfect solution because I have always admired Dr. Ruth, not only as a veterinarian and colleague, but as a kind, compassionate person. Dr. Ruth has been so kind and understanding with Jake. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results of her treatment and care. Jake is currently eating very well everyday because of the acupuncture, Chinese herbs and diet she recommended. Jake is no longer vomiting and is happy with lots of energy. Dr. Ruth Roberts has been devoted to Jake’s progress. I am forever in her debt for what she’s helped him to achieve. I no longer see Jake as the dying dog I love, but now I see a vibrant dog LIVING a great life!!!
All my Thanks to Ruth Roberts, DVM!!!

Elizabeth Nunn, DVM
Mount Pleasant, SC

These are very kind words, and it’s always a joy to see a wonderful dog that doesn't feel well become a wonderful dog that feels great! Jake no longer needs IV fluids every other week, and the amount of western medicines is markedly reduced. For those of you with pets that have suffered from kidney disease, you understand that his progress is a gift and must feel like a miracle to his owner. Chinese medicine and acupuncture in particular are energy-based medicines, and while it does require the knowledge and ability to apply these techniques, I like to remind myself and my clients that I am only a conduit of that energy.

Cheers!  - Dr. Ruth

Update from Murphy's Mom PDF Print E-mail
A little while back I wrote about Murphy. I wanted to share this letter Murphy's mom wrote to me:
August 6, 2008
Our beautiful Black Lab Murphy developed a cancerous tumor on his right hind hip and needed surgery. After recuperating from a wound that was difficult to keep sutured, it finally healed and Murphy seemed on the road to recovery. However, six months later the tumor returned. Murphy needed another surgery only this time a much larger area needed to be removed. Sadly it was a difficult type of cancer and Murphy’s prognosis was six to eight months if the cancer returned again.

It was after this surgery that Dr. Roberts talk to my husband and I about other alternatives to treat Murphy that did not require chemo or radiation. Because Murphy was so young my husband and I were open to holistic medicine because we did not want to put Murphy through a lengthy bout of chemicals.

Dr. Roberts discussed the benefits of Chinese Herbal Medicine. This treatment, which would establish Murphy’s “Chi” and give us the basis for a “custom herbal mixture” that, along with acupuncture would be a place to start to get Murphy healthy again. After further discussions with Dr. Roberts about the benefits of a “grain free commercial free” diet, we opted to start a regiment of home cooked meals including lots of greens, fish, vegetables and other foods/herbs that were determined to be best for Murphy’s treatment.

As Dr. Roberts says “feed the dog NOT the cancer” and it seems to be working! My husband and I are happy to report that Murphy is thriving on this regiment and remains cancer free almost two years now.My husband and I are very grateful for the care Murphy received from Dr. Roberts, as well as the time, patience and information she provided us.
Thank you so much,Dottie and Joel Savilonis &Murphy

This is a great example of Dr. Xie's idea of living peacefully with one's difficult labor. It is almost the idea of the "soft" styles of martial arts, where one utilizes one's opponents energy to wear him down, and ultimately, defeat him. Till next time!!
